Gina’s Salon & Wigs opens in Rocky River after move from Lakewood

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Gina’s Salon & Wigs opened to the public on Sept. 29. Gina Ayala’s big, bright salon on the first floor of the building at the corner of Detroit and Wooster roads, across from the Old River stores, displays what looks like hundreds of wigs.

Ayala specializes in wigs, although she provides other salon services, as well. She is especially proud, though, of the help she is able to give to people who are ill and going through treatments that result in hair loss.

Ali Rose, a longtime customer of Gina’s -- at least 10 years, she said -- visited for the grand opening. She said she had passed by the shop when Gina’s salon was in Lakewood. It was there that she learned about “toppers” -- small hairpieces designed to blend in on the top of the head for those with thinning hair.

Rose said she has looked elsewhere, including online, and hasn’t found prices as reasonable as Gina’s, not to mention her extensive collection. She also said Gina “tutored” her on what colors look best on her, and now Rose has a variety of about 16 hairpieces.

Outside the building, the red ribbons were cut with Rocky River Mayor Pam Bobst and Executive Director of the Rocky River Chamber of Commerce, Angela Dudek, as well as Ayala and her husband, Michael, who designed the salon’s interior.

Bobst said, “I want to thank (Gina) for the important work she does with those going through treatment and we are thrilled you are here and a part of our community.”

After the ribbon cutting, all were treated to a spread of food under tents, protecting everyone from the light rain coming down.

Gina and Michael’s daughter, Windsor Rompala, who lives in Strongsville, is studying environmental science and chemistry at Cleveland State University, where she is a senior.

About the new store, Rompala said: “It’s great, a lot better than where she used to be, so light and bright. I think (my mom) will do really well here.”

Gina’s Salon & Wigs is located at 19222 Detroit Road, suite 105. She can be reached at 216-226-6788.
